“The
goal to early childhood education should be to cultivate
the child's own natural
desire to learn.

Maria Montessori initially developed her educational methods while working with learning disabled children. To everyone’s amazement these children were soon able to pass the examinations of normal children. Maria became aware that children gain knowledge naturally by interacting with their environment. This discovery was the impetus of her life long journey of developing methods and materials to educate young children. I often ask my students: “Who taught you that?” Their response is frequently: “Oh, I just taught myself.” This response epitomizes the Montessori Method. I love it! ~Ms. Rita |

Here at the Montessori Learning Home the learning principles of Maria Montessori are used to help the young child reach his/her fullest potential by creating a classroom that fosters independence, order, and motivation. An abundance of learning experiences are presented within the loving, relaxed environment of a home. The students have the opportunity to develop positive self-esteem, appropriate social skills and respect for others and their surroundings through their attendance at the Montessori Learning Home. The child will also develop academic skills in the areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language Arts, Culture, and Science. In addition to all of this knowledge and skills, the Montessori Learning Home provides a Religious curriculum which is presented from the Catholic Christian perspective. Sharing daily prayer, studying Bible stories, and using praise and worship songs assist both the teacher and the students to live out the teachings of our Lord Jesus. Through nurturing the spiritual side of the young child the goodness and self-worth of each child is supported and affirmed as the child grows and learns. The Montessori Learning Home implements the approach to learning described by John Holt: “We need to have classrooms in which each child in his own way can satisfy his curiosity, develop his abilities and talents, pursue his interests, and from the adults and older children around him, get a glimpse of the great variety and richness of life.” (“How Children Fail,” Pitman Publishing corp.) |
